Alcott Math Challenge 2017-2018

All students (K-5) are invited to participate in this free optional math enrichment program sponsored by the Alcott PTSA. The purpose of the Alcott Math Challenge Program is to engage students in math problems that not only apply classroom knowledge but also move beyond rote skills to word-based problems typically found in higher-level math. Families are encouraged to solve the problems with the students.

Bi-weekly math worksheets will be published on the Math Challenge website. Students may download and print the math worksheet from the website to complete at home.

Prizes will be given to randomly selected students who accurately complete the challenges. A rotating Math Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the classroom with the most number of participants for each challenge.

The first math challenge of the school year starts on Friday, September 22, 2017.

We received great news from the Math is Cool Masters Competition in Moses Lake this past Saturday. Alcott 4th and 5th grades were invited into the Elite division of the Math is Cool Masters based on their excellent performance in Math is Cool Championship. In this much harder competition with over 100 invited teams from all over Washington State, both Alcott 4th grade team and 5th grade team won second place in their grades. Individually, two 5th graders won 6th place and 8th place trophies, with another team member listed right behind in the 9th place by tie breaker. Two 4th grade team members were listed at 9th place and 11th place respectively. Congratulations to both teams for their great work!
